The youth committee wholeheartedly believes that the hiring of a youth pastor is important for the whole church, and they want everyone to know how the search is progressing and know that input from any church member is welcome. Please scroll down below this post and take the survey if you have not already. You may also reach out to any committee member with concerns or ideas.
Meeting 1
The prospective youth committee met on February 22, under the guidance of Lesia Hogan to begin the process of selecting a youth pastor for our church. After an opening prayer, Mrs. Lesia advised them to choose a chairperson, and Misty Mullis was selected.
The committee spent a long time discussing each aspect of the current job descriptions to tweak them into a new document. Jodi Warren had researched many online youth pastor job descriptions from other churches, and they also used those to see if there were any major points being omitted, as well. All members present contributed concerns and edits to the original documents, making the draft a work that is a compilation of the entire group’s consensus.
After everyone’s input, Misty agreed to consolidate the changes and send out a new job description for perusal. They want to get a finalized draft to submit for church members to read and provide feedback on before they make a final job description to present to the conference for approval.
The committee learned that the church’s youth pastor position has been being advertised in the LBA newsletter, but they have no idea how long it has been in there. They created a new email address to use for youth inquiries: dexterbaptistyouth@gmail.com. Misty agreed to get that changed with the LBA.
The committee discussed posting the job and the importance of word of mouth. Jodi Warren agreed to get the job posted on job sites online.
The committee discussed salary and work hours, but that is still a work in progress, as there are a few things that need to be prayed upon and thought through in this area.
Finally, the committee discussed how important it is to keep the whole church informed of the progress of the search and get their input as much as possible. They decided that a website to do so would be the most effective way to reach all interested parties easily. They agreed to post the information on how to access the site in the bulletin. The site is dexterbaptistyouth.blogspot.com.
We closed in prayer with the following tasks to complete:
Pray.
Spread the word about the job opening, including Facebook posts, church announcements, and listings on job sites.
Get the job and the information on how to stay abreast of the youth pastor search online into the bulletin.
Finish the job description draft.
Provide copies of the job description draft to the church as soon as it is completed. (It will be posted on the website, and we will have copies as soon as we can get that finished.)
